الببر، المعروف خطأ بالنمر أو أحياناً بالنمر المخطط هو أكبر أنواع السنوريات في العالم. في المتوسط، تزن الببور حوالي 200 كيلوغرام ، لكن أكبرها هي نويعات الببر السيبيري التي يصل طولها إلى 4 أمتار ووزنها إلى 300 كيلوغرام. هذا الوزن الزائد هو في المقام الأول بسبب العضلات القوية الكبيرة. على عكس الأسود ثاني أكبر أنواع السنوريات ، تمتلك الببور كتلات عضلية أكبر وبالتالي فهي أثقل.غالبًا ما تعيش الببور بالقرب من المسطحات المائية ، لذلك تكيفت مع نمط حياة شبه مائي ، يبدو أنها تستمتع بالتواجد في الماء على عكس معظم القطط، وهي سباحة ماهرة تستخدم عضلاتها القوية لدفع أجسادها في الماء. لقد تطوروا أيضًا ليكون لهم أقدامًا مكففة، حيث يسمح الغشاء بين أصابعها بدفع كمية أكبر من الماء مع كل حركة.
