في هذا المقطع القصير وضحنا أن التفاضل والذي يدرس المشتقات هدفه أساسا هو دراسة معدل التغير، وأن معدل التغير هذا الذي ندرسه هو معدل التغير اللحظي = في لحظة معينة، وأشهر مثال على ذلك هو عداد السيارة الذي يظهر السرعة، هذا مجرد مثال صغير يوضح أهمية التفاضل الذي يهتم أصالة بدراسة الدوال ومعدل تغيرها.
