لا النافية للجنس حرف يعمل عمل (إنَّ) ينصب المبتدأ وبرفع الخبر، وهي تنفي الخبر عن جنس الاسمِ كلِّه، ويكون اسمها مبنيًّا على ما ينثب به إذا كان مفردًا؛ لأنه يتضمن معنى حرف الجر (مِنْ) الذي يفيد معنى الاستغراق، كما ورد في قول الشاعر:
فقام يذود الناس عنها بسيفه ** وقال ألا لا من سبيل إلى هند
وقد استعملَ القرآن الكريم لا النافية للجنس في كذا موضع منها:
﴿ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ ‌لَا ‌رَيۡبَۛ فِيهِۛ هُدٗى لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ﴾ [البقرة: 2]
﴿‌لَا ‌ظُلۡمَ ‌ٱلۡيَوۡمَۚ ﴾ [غافر: 17]
﴿قَالُواْ ‌لَا ‌ضَيۡرَۖ ﴾ [الشعراء: 50]
