اخترع الناس القدماء آلية إطفاء الشمعة هذه. يتم تثبيت إبرة في الموضع الذي يجب أن تُطفأ فيه الشمعة. وبمجرد أن تحترق الشمعة إلى النقطة المحددة، تنفصل الإبرة عن الشمعة، مما يؤدي إلى تشغيل الآلية.
