النمل الزومبى هو مصطلح يطلق على النمل الذي يصاب بفطر طفيلي يسمى "كورديسيبس". يهاجم الفطر دماغ النمل ويتحكم في سلوكه، مما يدفعه إلى الخروج من عشه والتسلق إلى مكان مرتفع، حيث يموت الفطر ويدمر نسيج جسم النمل. ثم ينمو الفطر من جسم النمل الميت، وينتج أبواغًا تنتشر في الهواء، وتصيب النمل الآخر.

تُعرف هذه الظاهرة منذ قرون، ولكن تم اكتشافها حديثًا علميًا في عام 1965. تم العثور على فطر الكورديسيبس في جميع أنحاء العالم، ويصيب العديد من أنواع النمل، بما في ذلك النمل الأحمر، والنمل الأسود، والنمل الكاذب.

تختلف أعراض الإصابة بفطر الكورديسيبس من نوع لآخر، ولكن بشكل عام، يفقد النمل المصاب سيطرته على جسده، ويتصرف بشكل غير طبيعي. قد يخرج النمل المصاب من عشه، ويمشي في اتجاهات عشوائية، أو يتشبث بالأشياء. في بعض الحالات، قد يهاجم النمل المصاب النمل الآخر.
